<image:title>About - About Me</image:title>
<image:caption>As the daughter of Chinese immigrants, I spent a lot of years navigating cultural differences and trying to satisfy my parents’ high expectations while also trying to make sense of my American-thinking but non-American-looking self. I made amazing lifelong friends but still felt “other” in the mostly White and wealthy community I grew up in. Shame and a longing to belong were my constant companions, though I had no words for these experiences or awareness of the roots. Shame often manifests as feelings of worthlessness, of being broken, bad, helpless, or hopeless. It’s incredibly common, not only among marginalized communities and trauma survivors, but also among high achievers and those who struggle with perfectionism, people-pleasing, and overthinking. I know from my own journey, as well as 20 amazing years as a therapist, that you can figure out the source of long-standing negative emotions and beliefs and you can resolve them. Whether they stem from intergenerational trauma, childhood events, or other painful losses, you can heal those wounds and the damaged sense of self connected to them.</image:caption>

<image:title>Anxiety Therapy in CA</image:title>
<image:caption>Tired of the constant worry? Maybe you obsess about things you shouldn’t have said, imagine catastrophic outcomes, or dwell on all the ways others must be judging you. You might get caught up in “what if” scenarios or avoid people and activities that could enrich you because there’s always the possibility of getting hurt. If you grew up feeling unsafe or in a chaotic environment, you may feel particularly desperate to get solid ground under your feet. It makes sense that you crave certainty and more control. Anxiety often causes a ripple effect of problems, though. Overthinking, avoiding, people-pleasing, and perfectionism are all behaviors that often stem from excessive worry and lead to more stress and less satisfaction in work and relationships. Whether ruminating about perceived missteps, anticipating what might go wrong next, or stressing about what everyone else thinks about you, getting stuck in worry loops is very common. Excessive worry, though, is also likely to tank your mood, tax your relationships, and keep life small.</image:caption>

<image:title>Anxiety Therapy in CA - Let’s bring it down to size.</image:title>
<image:caption>You may wish, as many do, that you could just get rid of anxiety. Without it, though, we might rush into exciting ideas that also have a high likelihood of death. Or feel so comfortable we don’t move when we should. The problem is that having too much anxiety — which is often rooted in past events — can keep us from taking risks, going after things we want, or feeling any peace in our day to day. Though we can’t get rid of it altogether, what we can do is heal the past memories or experiences that fuel excessive anxiety in the present. Childhood events, betrayals, and painful personal or professional losses often drive the fear we feel today. We can also change our relationship to those worry spirals, quiet the alarms going off in our bodies, and help you support yourself through difficult things rather than tear yourself down. In our work together, we will get to know and understand your anxiety, address the roots that maintain it, provide you with tools to manage it productively, and reduce its intensity and control over your life.</image:caption>

<image:title>Therapy for Actors, Artists, Writers, & Creatives - Work with someone who gets it.</image:title>
<image:caption>Unlike most therapists, I actually know what you’re talking about when you refer to the intense pressure in the writers’ room, that sinking feeling comparing yourself to the competition, or the difficulty getting over that life-changing project that almost was. I get how important it is for you to have a truly safe and confidential place to process, heal, and say it like it is. And how much you need a therapist who is neither intimidated by big achievements nor judgmental of your difficulties. An actor before becoming a therapist, I have conducted research on the impact of film and TV work on mental health and presented to Writers Guild members on the topic of self-care. My clients include professional writers, actors, directors, animators, singer-songwriters, execs, and other creatives working across the entertainment industry. My approach to working with actors, writers, filmmakers and other performing and creative artists comes from the belief you are already whole, though the industry can make you feel broken.</image:caption>

<image:title>Therapy for Asian Americans - You don’t need to explain it to me.</image:title>
<image:caption>I love being Asian American - now. I hated it growing up and for many years after. And there are still times, like when the pandemic started, that I feel extra vigilant when people walk up behind me. If you’re a woman, a person of color, and/or a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, you may know this feeling of having to watch your back. You shouldn’t need eyes in the back of your head during therapy. Knowing you are wholly accepted and warmly welcomed provides a felt sense of safety that is critical to good therapy. I identify as a straight, cisgender, second-generation Chinese American woman, and I am committed to providing culturally sensitive, LGBTQIA-affirming, inclusive services to a diverse clientele, with a special emphasis on AAPI clients.</image:caption>

<image:title>Therapy for Asian Americans - If you resonate with the above, you might feel stuck in a no-win situation. You’re not alone, and I can help.</image:title>
<image:caption>Depending on your goals, together we can help you: Set boundaries that work for you and still maintain connection Explore the pros and cons of cutting off your family or seeking reconciliation if you’re already cut off Understand the fragility often at the heart of critical and demanding parents Put the intergenerational cycle of trauma into context and stop its perpetuation Relate to your family as the adult you are now, not as the child you were back then Heal the painful childhood memories that affect you today</image:caption>

<image:title>Therapy for Trauma in CA</image:title>
<image:caption>Reclaim your joy and find peace. Humans are incredibly resilient, but there are times when our innate, self-healing systems become overwhelmed. Physical or sexual violence, childhood abuse or neglect, natural disasters, serious accidents, and war are all terrifying experiences that may overload our natural ability to cope. They are not the only sources of trauma, though. Stressful but fairly common experiences like divorce, the loss of a loved one, chronic illness, physical injuries, toxic work environments, and discrimination can also distort the way we perceive and experience ourselves, others, and the world around us. At times, we may not be fully aware of the lingering impact certain stressful events have on us. We may not see the connection between those negative experiences – which may operate like quiet programs running in the background – and today’s difficulties. Or we may minimize those events and tell ourselves to “just get over it.”</image:caption>
</image:image>
<image:image>
<image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6385333a17ae0f4557bdd225/d81be1cf-856b-42bd-98d4-a1a44c6702ed/EMDR-Therapy-LGBTQ-Los-Angeles-CA.jpg</image:loc>
<image:title>Therapy for Trauma in CA - Whether due to a sudden shock like sexual assault or a more chronic wound like growing up with a dysfunctional parent, you can heal from trauma.</image:title>
<image:caption>These painful experiences are often the root of many types of stuckness, like perfectionism, depression, or excessive rumination. In fact, you may find that a lot of other difficulties clear up as you resolve these wounds. Results often include more restful sleep, feeling more connected to others, responding more calmly to stress, and experiencing more energy and optimism. Clients have described themselves as feeling lighter, forgetting to be anxious, no longer having crying spells, and enjoying life again during the course of trauma work. Together we can help you: Make sense of confusing and distressing events Heal the distortions to your sense of self Restore your ability to trust yourself and others Reconnect to parts of you that were lost due to the trauma Free yourself from guilt, shame, and constant fear Find safety and connection again Live more fully now Feel empowered and in control again It’s important to know that, if you can’t imagine ever talking about what happened to you or don’t recall specifics, that’s ok too. EMDR, brainspotting, Flash Technique, and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) can heal trauma without any need for details.</image:caption>

<image:title>Home - LICENSED THERAPIST</image:title>
<image:caption>Hi, I’m Linda. I help high-achieving artists and professionals overcome perfectionism, imposter syndrome, and low self-esteem. If this resonates with you, you may be struggling with self-doubt, overthinking, and feeling “not enough.” You may have a strong self-critic and feel inadequate in spite of your accomplishments. Maybe you’ve tried to suppress fearful thoughts, self-sabotaging behaviors, or difficult feelings — only to find these control tactics don’t work very well or last. Maybe you’ve also tried talk therapy to vent and gain insight, but found that this alone did not provide the change or clarity you crave. In our work together, we won’t just talk about problems, but I’ll help you explore and process them in an embodied way that will shift your experience of them and of yourself. You’ll reclaim your confidence, motivation, and inner peace.</image:caption>

<image:title>IFS Therapy in Los Angeles and all of CA - What is IFS Therapy?</image:title>
<image:caption>Developed by Richard Schwartz, Ph.D, in the 1980s, IFS therapy is a deeply respectful and nonjudgmental approach that often leads to increased self-acceptance, self-awareness, and self-compassion as well as deep healing and change. It’s rooted in the concept that we all have different parts – or aspects of our personality – that are expressed through our feelings, thoughts, body sensations, and beliefs. Sometimes, these parts are at odds with one another, thus causing emotions and behaviors that are confusing and frustrating. For instance, you may have a part that wants to deepen your relationship with your partner, a part that shuts down when you’re around them, and another part criticizing you for jeopardizing this relationship. These conflicting parts may cause you to second-guess yourself, self-sabotage, run hot and cold, flip-flop between perspectives, and feel drained by the internal tug-of-war. They can wreak havoc on your relationships with others and, most importantly, with yourself. IFS can help you can make sense of these dynamics, heal the wounded parts, and find clarity and calm.</image:caption>

<image:title>IFS Therapy in Los Angeles and all of CA - What does an IFS therapy session look like?</image:title>
<image:caption>You may come into session wanting to discuss a recent situation that really irritated you, a pattern you’ve been noticing in your life, a decision you need to make, or a relationship that is difficult for you. In IFS, these “trailheads” are wonderful jumping off points for exploring your parts. I will help you find the courage, compassion, and curiosity within to get to know the parts from a place of openness. You will usually first get to know your protectors and the important roles they play. The protectors may, when they feel understood and respected, reveal the wounded exile they have been watching over. This exile can be unburdened of the hurt it has been carrying and finally set free. With the exile’s distress no longer a constant threat bubbling just below the surface, overly protective managers and firefighters can then soften or take on more adaptive roles, leading to the positive change in your emotions and behaviors you’ve been seeking.</image:caption>

<image:title>EMDR and IFS Therapy Intensives - Why choose a therapy intensive?</image:title>
<image:caption>If you have done therapy in a 50- or 60-minute timeframe, you know that it often leaves you hanging and wishing you had more time. Weekly sessions usually begin with a check-in to find out any important updates from the previous meeting and end with time for grounding and closing. This means that your actual time doing the deep work of healing is limited. An intensive format, in contrast, provides a solid 3-hour block of time dedicated to resolving a particular problem, without the starting, stopping, and wait in between that tends to break up and delay progress. This highly focused structure allows for more effective processing and much faster progress than the start-stop format of one-hour weekly sessions. While some issues can be resolved with one intensive, others will require additional sessions. Feel free to inquire about how many intensives may be indicated for your unique situation.</image:caption>

<image:title>Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) in Los Angeles - What is Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)?</image:title>
<image:caption>Accelerated Resolution Therapy is a powerful but lesser known therapy approach that can clear up sticky problems in a surprisingly short amount of time. It’s generally quick and effective for resolving traumatic events, including sexual assaults, accidents, childhood wounds, and other painful memories. ART dissolves the deep distress and reactivity associated with these experiences, freeing you to find ease and move forward again. It’s also useful for tackling stubborn daily issues such as procrastination, low motivation, or people-pleasing. Other issues that ART can help include difficult decisions, performance blocks, intrusive images, recurring nightmares, and feelings of confusion or general stuckness. ART requires no homework in between sessions, and there’s no need to disclose details about the issue you’re working on.</image:caption>

<image:title>Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) in Los Angeles</image:title>
<image:caption>How does Accelerated Resolution Therapy work? Also known as ART, Accelerated Resolution Therapy is an evidence-based therapy that effectively neutralizes distressing events by replacing negative imagery and other disturbing sensory information with positive inputs instead. ART integrates aspects of many other established approaches, such as EMDR, imaginal and in vivo exposure, Gestalt therapy, image rescripting, memory reconsolidation, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. Developed by Laney Rosenzweig, MS, LMFT, in 2008, ART was initially inspired by EMDR and is used to treat post-traumatic stress, depression, grief, anxiety, panic attacks, codependence, job-related stress, substance use, performance anxiety, and numerous other issues. Though it varies, ART can often resolve an issue in 1-5 sessions. In general, one-time events (e.g., a stressful incident like an accident) take fewer sessions and ongoing events (e.g., daily anxiety or difficulty) take more.</image:caption>

<image:title>Flash Technique - Still think you have to feel it to heal it?</image:title>
<image:caption>The last thing most of us want to do is think about the terrible experience we had that continues to haunt us and cause us shame, terror, despair, or rage. The desire to avoid re-experiencing the disturbing memory is completely understandable but, paradoxically, often leads to heightened reactivity when triggered and to defensive behaviors that sabotage the intimacy and happiness you seek. You may even recognize that those deeply buried experiences remain alive today — making you lose your temper, choose poor fit partners, or reflexively people-please. But the thought of opening it all up again feels impossible and overwhelming. You may be relieved to know that it’s possible to put an end to those intrusive thoughts, feelings, and body sensations without having to think about those painful experiences in depth. That’s right - contrary to the belief that trauma work requires conscious contact with the target event, we now know there’s no need to rehash it to move past it. It may be hard to believe, but trauma work can be painless.</image:caption>

<image:title>Flash Technique</image:title>
<image:caption>You don’t have to relive any details or talk ad nauseum about what occurred to put it to bed for good. In recent years, an evidence-based approach called Flash Technique has proved to be an effective, distress-free, and non-intrusive method for resolving disturbing experiences in a short amount of time. When using Flash, trauma memories process quietly in the background while you and I spend most of our time talking about your favorite things, doing tongue twisters, watching funny videos, and doing other enjoyable activities. How is this possible? Research shows that very brief — even unconscious — exposure to traumatic memories may allow for faster and easier processing of disturbing events because the person’s fear response is not triggered. When these micro-exposures are juxtaposed with a pleasant, engaging activity, distressing memories appear to lose their vividness and emotional charge. This means that there’s no need to talk about the traumatic event or recall it in detail. Less is actually more in Flash.</image:caption>

<image:title>Flash Technique</image:title>
<image:caption>WORK SMARTER, NOT HARDER. How does Flash Technique work? During Flash, I’ll help you identify a troubling memory or series of memories you’d like to work on. You don’t need to think about or share any details whatsoever. We’ll then contain the memory and focus on something enjoyable or relaxing instead. Clients have played music, sung, watched sitcoms, reminisced about their favorite travels, played games, described their favorite hobbies, read manga, watched funny animal or extreme sports videos, and created art, as just some examples. I’ll guide you through some tapping and blinking while engaging in your activity. We’ll move back and forth between doing fun things and briefly checking on the target memories. With Flash, the more relaxed and distracted you are, the better it works! Generally, once-disturbing memories soon start to look fuzzy, feel far away, and lose their hold over you, freeing you to move forward unrestrained by the past.</image:caption>

<image:title>Clinical Hypnotherapy - How do you integrate hypnosis into your therapy practice? Unlike stage hypnotists or lay hypnotherapists who are not licensed mental health therapists, I am trained in accordance with the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH), which requires advanced education and licensure in healthcare. ASCH trains healthcare professionals such as medical doctors, nurses, dentists, and mental health therapists in the evidence-based and ethical use of hypnosis for treating clinical diagnoses that are already within their scope of practice. Depending on your goals, I may offer to integrate hypnosis while we are exploring a particular problem or during a session in which we are also using EMDR, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, IFS, or any other approach. Hypnosis plays great with most modalities and adds a gentle, effective, and pleasurable way to make therapeutic breakthroughs. I may also teach you self-hypnosis. Some issues for which I have used clinical hypnosis include procrastination, low motivation, creative blocks, low self-confidence, emotional dysregulation, impulsivity, fear of a medical procedure, indecision, and performance anxiety.</image:title>

<image:title>Clinical Hypnotherapy - Debunking hypnosis myths</image:title>
<image:caption>Sometimes it can be helpful to take a moment and address the many misconceptions that have arisen from stage shows and depictions of hypnosis in film and television. It’s important to remember that these forms of media are intended for entertainment. Due to these portrayals, you may understandably have impressions of hypnosis as a scary method of brainwashing during which a person loses all agency, memory, and self-control. These ideas are false, and sadly, the irony is that hypnosis can be incredibly empowering and liberating. To clarify, if we utilize clinical hypnotherapy together: You are in control of the experience. You cannot be made to do things you do not want to do or to accept suggestions you do not wish to accept. You can come out of it at any time. You are not asleep or unconscious. In fact, we’ll be chatting intermittently throughout the experience and talking about it afterwards. The experience is informed by your therapy goals and geared toward optimizing healing.</image:caption>
