Anxiety Therapy

Tired of the constant worry?

Maybe you obsess about things you shouldn’t have said, imagine catastrophic outcomes, or dwell on all the ways others must be judging you. You might get caught up in “what if” scenarios or avoid people and activities that could enrich you because there’s always the possibility of getting hurt.

If you grew up feeling unsafe or in a chaotic environment, you may feel particularly desperate to get solid ground under your feet. It makes sense that you crave certainty and more control.

Anxiety often causes a ripple effect of problems, though. Overthinking, avoiding, people-pleasing, and perfectionism are all behaviors that often stem from excessive worry and lead to more stress and less satisfaction in work and relationships.

Whether ruminating about perceived missteps, anticipating what might go wrong next, or stressing about what everyone else thinks about you, getting stuck in worry loops is very common.  Excessive worry, though, is also likely to tank your mood, tax your relationships, and keep life small.

Let’s bring it down to size.

You may wish, as many do, that you could just get rid of anxiety. Without it, though, we might rush into exciting ideas that also have a high likelihood of death. Or feel so comfortable we don’t move when we should.

The problem is that having too much anxiety — which is often rooted in past events — can keep us from taking risks, going after things we want, or feeling any peace in our day to day.

Though we can’t get rid of it altogether, what we can do is heal the past memories or experiences that fuel excessive anxiety in the present. Childhood events, betrayals, and painful personal or professional losses often drive the fear we feel today.

We can also change our relationship to those worry spirals, quiet the alarms going off in our bodies, and help you support yourself through difficult things rather than tear yourself down.

In our work together, we will get to know and understand your anxiety, address the roots that maintain it, provide you with tools to manage it productively, and reduce its intensity and control over your life.

You can exit the worry loop.

It may seem impossible now, but you can feel more grounded. You can observe the catastrophic thoughts without getting caught up in them.  You can have confidence in your ability to meet challenges as they arise and no longer try to control everything.

Together we can help you:

  • Relate to your worry differently

  • Be present in your relationships

  • Calm your body

  • Move forward toward your goals in spite of anxiety

  • Become more engaged and active in life

  • Gain confidence in your ability to manage things as they come

  • Understand the relationship between anxiety and the need for safety

  • Resolve difficult events from the past that keep you anxious
