EMDR and IFS Therapy Intensives

Turbo-charge relief.

There are times in life when we drag our feet, unsure of whether we want to prioritize ourselves or whether it’s really ok to invest in our own wellbeing. We go back and forth about what to do and end up staying stuck, wasting more time, and regretting the lack of action.

For you, this isn’t one of those times.

You are motivated to heal from a longstanding issue that’s been holding you back or to tackle a recent event that’s rocked your world. You have a block you need to understand or a pattern that’s driving you crazy.

Maybe the weekly sessions with your talk therapist are ok but the progress is slow. Or you don’t have a regular therapist, don’t have time for one, and just want to work through some things to feel your best and move forward again. Either way, you don’t have time to waste.

Therapy intensives, which are extended 2- to 3-hour sessions using effective trauma approaches such as EMDR, IFS, or ART, provide faster relief by offering concentrated time to do the healing work and by skipping the longer wait for weekly slots.

What is a therapy intensive?

If you have done therapy in a 50- or 60-minute timeframe, you know that it often leaves you hanging and wishing you had more time. Weekly sessions usually begin with a check-in to find out any important updates from the previous meeting and end with time for grounding and closing. This means that your actual time doing the deep work of healing is limited.

An intensive format, in contrast, provides a solid 2- to 3-hour block of time dedicated to resolving a particular problem, without the starting, stopping, and wait in between that tends to break up and delay progress. This highly focused structure allows for more thorough processing, increased integration, and much faster progress than the start-stop format of one-hour weekly sessions.

Intensives usually begin with a 2-hour preparation session one week and then a 3-hour intensive processing session within 2 weeks. In some cases, clients may schedule a 3-hour intensive without the need for the prep session.

You may be a good fit for a therapy intensive if:

  • Y

ou experienced or witnessed a traumatic event, like a car accident or sexual assault

  • You experienced an embarrassing or humiliating event that you can’t shake. You may be a performer, an athlete, or other high-achieving professional

  • You experienced childhood trauma, neglect, or abuse

  • You have unresolved grief

  • You experienced a recent or sudden loss

  • You had a difficult relationship with a caregiver, partner, or coworker and you wish to decrease their negative impact on your life and your self-esteem

  • You have negative beliefs about yourself that leave you fearful of mistakes or feeling not enough

  • You have a regular therapist but need specialized, short-term trauma work

  • You’ve had EMDR, IFS, or ART before and you know it works well for you.

FAQs

    • Intensives help you feel better faster.

Everyone is different, but it is not uncommon for someone to achieve in 3 continuous hours what might normally take 1 month or longer.

    • Though upfront fees are higher, intensives save you time and, due to accelerated progress, save you money in the long run.

    • Intensives are good for people who travel frequently, who have inconsistent schedules, or who have a hard time taking time off work or arranging childcare for weekly therapy.

    • Intensives work well for people who do not want ongoing therapy but need targeted healing on specific issues.

    • I currently have a waitlist for clients who wish to have therapy weekly but have faster availability for intensive clients.

    1. Set up a free 20-minute consultation to make sure an intensive format is the right one for you.

    2. Meet me for a 2-hour session to prepare for the intensive.

We’ll create a clear plan, practice important grounding skills, and dip into exercises using IFS, ART, or EMDR to begin the healing process.

    3. Within the next week or two, we’ll meet again for a 3-hour intensive therapy session to target the problem with laser-like focus.

    4. Monitor your progress for 1 week post-intensive.

You may have reached your goal and be done!

Or you may wish to schedule another 3-hour intensive to maximize progress or to begin working on a new goal.

  • The rate for intensives is $360/hour:

    • 2-hour preparation sessions are $720.

    • 3-hour intensive processing sessions are $1,080.

Generally, clients opt for a 2-hour preparation session followed by an intensive 3-hour processing session 1-2 weeks later.

You have the flexibility to add additional 2- to 3-hour blocks as needed.

While some issues resolve with one intensive, others may require additional days.

There is no need to commit to a multi-day program beforehand, because you simply may not need it.

  • Yes! EMDR and IFS therapy intensives are an excellent way to supplement regular talk therapy. They can help you resolve a traumatic experience or stuck pattern. I am happy to collaborate with your therapist if you wish.

  • I am not in-network with any insurance plans. However, your PPO plan may reimburse a portion of the fees. Please note that insurance plans require a diagnosis for possible reimbursement. Please connect with your insurance provider for more information.

  • For intensive programs, the 2-hour preparation may be conducted online or in my office.

However, all 3-hour intensive sessions are in person and take place at my office on Mon., Wed., or Fri. from 9:30am-12:30pm.

  • Due to safety concerns and the short-term nature of intensive work, intensive programs with me are not appropriate if you:

    • currently experience suicidal ideation or self-harm

    • primarily wish to treat substance use or other addiction

    • primarily wish to treat an active eating disorder.

The only exception to the above is if you are currently under the care of another primary therapist and receive ongoing care.
